The Top New Year’s Resolutions, and why you should scrap them. Second Post, First Focus!

I need to be intentional about my relationship with God.

Okay, so my first focus point is spiritual. If that doesn’t appeal to you, feel free to skip this focus and the next one…they are both focused on God. I cannot speak for every person, but for me, as a Christian with a relationship with my Lord, my spiritual health is first. If I let that slide, everything else goes out the window, and life spirals out of control. It isn’t pretty, so I need to be intentional about my relationship with God, through Jesus. Knowing what God wants for me, and getting deeper into my relationship with Him is really important. I find out so much about Him through his Word. Scripture needs to be a part of my day so that I can understand what He is saying to me.

Since I was a child, I have had the simplest of faiths.

I don’t mean that I am not a mature Christian; I have been a Christian since I was very young, and learning about my faith for a long time. What I mean is that I don’t complicate my faith with things that are lightyears away from my ability to verify. I don’t enter into debates on the age of the planet, or the dogmatic debates of a lot of theoretical platforms. Debates don’t interest me. I have always trusted the hand of God in my life. If I look, I cannot miss the very apparent hand of God in the paths that I have taken. Even when I have taken the wrong path, chosen a bad relationship, or walked directly in opposition to God’s plan for my life, He has taken care of me.

I wouldn’t know what that looks like without having learned what God wants for me, through scripture.

There are so many places we can learn about the Word and what it teaches, so everyone can find something that fits. Of course, you can just read the Bible, in a translation or version that fits your life. That works, to an extent. I would challenge you, to find a Bible believing church in your area. Getting together with other believers always strengthens our understanding and effectiveness. That is the design behind the scripture we find in Matthew chapter 18. Verse 20 (NIV) says “For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.” We strengthen each other. We bring our faith and our prayers to the Lord together, and wonderful things happen. That is why, in the next post, I will also talk about community and why I have joined a group online. Click here to head over to my Second Focus for 2019.

That said, I have a list of Bibles and resources that I have enjoyed and gotten a lot out of, in my store on Amazon. If you would like to check any of them out, please just click through and browse for yourself. I do get an affiliate fee for things bought through my affiliate page on Amazon, but more than that, it is a place that I can send you for the resources that I would be happy to recommend.

Click here to see my list of Bibles and resources! You can find them under the heading of the same name as this post in the Repository.
